Glink sheathed her sword and approached Lydiana, stopping and looking up at her.

"You're a good person. It's not your fault who your parents were, just watch out for the bees." That said, she returned to Todd and Killroy, at least one of which was probably on their way to the stable already.

"...What..."

"Uh, captain...?" one of the guards began to question.

"Not now, lieutenant." Lydiana cut him off, "That door is your first priority!"

She turned and watched the last of the prisoners slip into the stables. On one hand, she was hoping the Ravagers would finish them off, fixing the problem for her. But at the same time, there was something amusing about this lot. Maybe she didn't want them dead so much after all.

Regardless of that, she pushed any thoughts on that matter from her mind as the crude Ravager axes could be seen now blasting their way through the wooden door. It would only be a matter of time...

Meanwhile, the jailer had led everyone into the stable, where he and others hastily began throwing saddles onto the unsaddled horses.

"We shouldn't open the stable door until we're all prepared." he suggested.

Mhaenal gave the captain a quick nod before following the others. He picked a horse and saddled it quickly, then started saddling another one immediately after, figuring there would likely be at least one or two in the group who couldn't manage it.

Todd grabbed an empty wooden bucket and set it next to another horse. He stepped onto it and began to place a saddle on the horse, standing on his toes and stretching his arms as much as he could. He had just placed the saddle on the horse when the bucket gave way, sending him crashing to the floor, with the saddle falling on him.
"Why!" he cried, "Why did they make horses so tall!"

"So idiot dwarves couldn't get on them." an elven prisoner mocked with a chuckle.

Killroy saddled up a horse, then found Glink and directed her to it. Assuming she didn't object, he helped her up onto it.

"Ye can ride I hope?" he asked.

"Yeah, of course." She replied, grabbing the horse's mane... then releasing it and grabbing the reigns intead. "It's just like riding a miniature pony. Except it's a lot taller."

"Aye, if ye need help I can ride with ye." Killroy offered, then stepped away to saddle up another horse.

The sounds of the Ravagers outside began to draw dangerously close.

"Hurry up!" the jailer urged.

"Dwarf! Now listen Farm Boy..." Todd stopped as he heard the pounding on the door becoming louder. "Um...sure, a boost would be great!"

Mhaenal immediately crouched next to the horse and cupped his hands for Todd's foot. "Quickly."

Todd put his foot in Mhaenal's hands, and flung himself onto the saddle.
"Hurry up Farmboy," he said from atop his horse, "we don't want to be waiting for you!"

Mhaenal grabbed the other horse he'd previously saddled by the mane and swung himself up gracefully.

"I'm sure I'll be fine." Glink replied, nudging the horse with her heels. "But uh... how do I make it move?"

"How do ye make a miniature pony move?" Killroy asked sarcastically.

"Killroy, just ride with her already." Mhaenal said impatiently.

Killroy nodded in agreement, then hopped on in front of Glink.

"All ready? We're going now!" the jailer cried, throwing the doors open, then quickly hopping onto a horse and riding forth.

Killroy followed soon after.

"Hold on lassie."

Glink wrapped her arms around Killroy's waist.

Todd, in the very back, was about to start riding when his horse, on its own, began to follow the group. He lost the reigns and was jerked backwards, with his face to the sky. Since his feet could not reach the stirrup, had to squeeze his legs against the horse to stay on it.
"Why did horses have to be so obstinate!" he yelled, while he clumsily bounced up and down.

The group was soon all out into the streets, where the once black, cloudy sky was now glowing reddish-orange from the burning city. Ravagers were close-by and tried to intercept the escapees, with one of their archers managing to shoot a prisoner off their horse.

The jailer's horse was in full-gallop as he tried to make a break for the rear gate that was situated a ways behind the keep. It was far closer than the front gate, but still a fair distance away. Luckily, most of the Ravagers were still focused more in the direction of the front gate.

"Stay with me! Don't stop!" the jailer wailed.

Killroy drew his sword as he noticed a pair of Ravagers moving in front of his path. Once close enough, Killroy caused the horse to jump, which it did, kicking the first Ravager with its hoves in the process. Upon landing, the second one tried to attack, but Killroy swung his sword in a downward arch and would've split the savage's skull in two, if not for the crude iron helmet it was wearing.

A couple more prisoners were taken down, dropping the total number of people to a little over a dozen. The group then ran into the rear gate, which was being kept closed by the faithful guards. A small crowd had gathered at the door and was clamoring for the guards to open it.

Mhaenal rode using only his knees, bow and arrow at the ready. He let one loose at a Ravager and had another notched within seconds. "We're racing!" He called up to Glink, then shot someone who tried to run up behind her with an ax.

"Open the gate!" the jailer cried out.

"You're no officer! I'm keeping it closed until I get orders!" the gatekeeper shouted back from behind the gate guards.

"You and your men should be helping defend the city! Not keeping the people from escaping!" the jailer yelled back.

"Yeah? And what are you doing?"

"I'm... uh..." the jailer's momentary confidence vanished as he realized he was supposed to be defending the city too.
