Age of Retribution Part VI: Rise of the Runebound and the Curiously Elated Fools

"Are ye alright, there?" Killroy inquired of the man on the floor, "Do ye think ye can be moved?"

[DeadJim]

"He doesn't matter!" Todd yelled as he jumped out of the cabinet, "They're coming! They're coming! Run for your life! Save yourself!"

He then ran out of the kitchen, and out whatever door they had come through.

[Garyn Dakari]

    Glink bolted after him.

    "Err..." Olavon said, rather confused about what was happening. "Yes... yes, I'll be fine." He started standing up.

    The halfling woman suddenly popped back into the room, and paused briefly to watch everyone. Then she grabbed a biscuit, smiled, and ran back the way she'd came.

Killroy had looked up in the meantime after Todd and Glink's shenanigans.

"I wonder who Todd thought was coming." he mused.

Suddenly the door burst open again and the two (still nameless) prisoners that had ridden in with them burst into the kitchen.

"They're coming! They're coming!" the less sleepy one burst-out hysterically.

[Garyn Dakari]

    "Dammit everyone hide!" Olavon exclaimed.

[Aeliss Novak]

    "Who's coming?" Mhaenal demanded, his hand going reflexively for his bow.

[Tyler294]

"The guards from Shoonsville! There's a whole troop of them coming up the road!" the prisoner replied, then drug his companion back outside.

"Well it's been fun, but we'll just be takin' our pay and be goin' then." Killroy quickly said to Olavon.

[Garyn Dakari]

    Olavon left the room and returned a few seconds later with a hefty purse - heftier than Killroy was probably expecting.

    "There, for your band's troubles. And you'll get many times that if you return with my murderer's identity! Or head, whichever is deemed appropriate."

Killroy accepted the coin purse and began heading toward the door.

"Oi, what's the art critic's name again?" he asked back at Olavon, having momentarily forgotten.

[Garyn Dakari]

    "Yalith, son of Xalith, son of Walith. Not to be trusted, any of them!"

[Tyler294]

"Doesn't sound like a trustworthy family... We'll be cautious!" Killroy responded, before exiting the room in haste.

Outside, the two other prisoners were already mounted and nearly about to ride off without the rest. Up the road a ways, a troop of a couple dozen soldiers could be seen kicking up a dust-cloud as they approached the mansion.

    Mhaenal mounted his borrowed steed, turned around and started riding down the opposite side of the hill.

Killroy grabbed his horse, little knowing that it was actually what the approaching troops were after, and prepared to mount. But first he looked around to try and locate Glink.

[Garyn Dakari]

    Glink and Todd were mysteriously absent...

[Tyler294]

"Oi! Where be the short ones?!" Killroy shouted over to the prisoners.

"I don't know! I thought they were with you!" the one who'd done all the talking to this point replied, and no, his name is not Manfred.

"Damn it! TODD! GLINK!" Killroy shouted.

The dust cloud was drawing nearer and Mhaenal was probably already nearly out of sight.

Just then Todd came running from a grove a trees, with apples falling from his arms.

"I got food!" he gleefully yelled as he held about a dozen apples.

[Tyler294]

"Not gonna do any good in prison!" Killroy snapped, pointing at the approaching troops, "Mount up!"

Maybe if Todd was lucky his horse had a sack attached to the saddle or something.

[DeadJim]

Poor Todd wasn't so lucky. He dropped the apples, and frantically tried to mount his horse... which of course didn't go exactly well.

"Teeeeed!" He yelled as the horse started to go in circles.

Shaking his head, Killroy mounted up, rode over, then grabbed Todd and shoved him up onto the horse.

"Where's Glink!?" he snapped.

[Garyn Dakari]

    Glink... did not show up on cue, oddly enough.

[DeadJim]

Todd, who was in an odd position on the horse, just shrugged.

[Tyler294]

"Catch up with Mhaenal, I'll find ye later!" Killroy snapped at Todd, pointing in the direction Mhaenal went, before he began circling the house calling out for Glink.

[DeadJim]

"Hold on Farmboy! I'm coming!" Todd yelled as he clumsily rode his horse in that general direction.

[Garyn Dakari]

    Around back, Killroy found Olavon's rather overgrown garden. Glink didn't answer, but given how large some of the plants were she could possibly be in here. Not that she had a logical reason to be... probably. He then felt an odd buzzing sensation in his forehead, just before he caught a glimpse of what looked like a tall human shadow... standing upright in the air. Or had he just imagined it? He blinked and thought he saw the shadow reappear, take a step toward the house, then disappear just as suddenly.

Killroy halted a moment, eyes darting back and forth. Hoping the city guards didn't have a wizard of some sort in their employ, waited a moment, then resumed riding, calling out Glink's name again. He only intended to make one lap around the house however, before taking off after the other two. It was no use being taken back to Shoonsville to hang on account of somebody who was hiding pretty well already. Besides that he was certain the guards cared much less for her capture then they did for his.

In any case, he hastened his ride around the mansion, calling out his intent to leave Glink behind if she didn't show herself.
